Rich with history, The Riverview is set on a site with deep roots dating back to 1870. Originally part of the Severy Ranch, founded by Col. Luther Severy, the property boasts a storied past including Victorian farmhouses, grand picnics with thousands of attendees, and notable historical figures. Col. Severy, an influential figure in local and state development, established this ranch with remarkable features like extensive rock walls, flagstone sidewalks, and a scenic bridge across the Marais des Cygnes River, known as Severy’s Crossing.
In subsequent years, the property was home to the P.C. Reed Ranch and later the Coffman Ranch, each adding their own chapter to its rich history with large community gatherings and family traditions. Today, JT and Amy Crawford, who share a passion for local history and restoration, have lovingly restored the property, maintaining its historical charm while updating its facilities.
In 2022, The Riverview was honored to be placed on the Kansas and National Register of Historical Places, acknowledging its significance and preserving its legacy for future generations.
